Every time I go to the RWA Conference, I come back both exhausted and full of enthusiasm
for writing. This year was no exception.
Have I mentioned that I love flying first class? I traded in a bunch of miles so
that I wouldn’t have to ride in the sardine compartment. On the way home, it was
especially nice to be able to grab a little shut-eye after staying up too
late celebrating Barbara Samuel’s and Beth Pattillo’s Ritas. The Bloody Marys they
served in first didn’t hurt, either.

Got the iPod loaded up with a bunch more music; lately I’ve been listening to an
Aussie guitarist named Tommy Emmanuel. If ever one person could make a guitar sound
like a whole band, it’s him. Saw him at the House of Blues in Los Angeles, and I
was blown away by his prowess. Having a husband who is himself an occasional guitarist
made the experience all the richer as I watched his eyes turn saucerlike as Emmanuel
did things he hadn’t even dreamed of doing.
